A Māori environmentalist wants whānau in the super city to be smarter with their rubbish.
Para Kore ki Tāmaki rangatahi lead Koha Kahui-McConnell says a lot of products can be reused.
Whānau should check the labelling before tossing items in the bin, and food scraps especially should skip the tip.
“At Para Kore, we have a slogan that if it comes from Papatūānuku, it can return to Papatūānuku, and even if you are just digging a hole and putting that food back into Papatūānuku, it is eventually going to be used as nutrients and turn into a circular cycle rather than a linear one,” Mr Kahui-McConnell says.
Para Kore ki Tāmaki runs workshops on waste minimisation and recycling around Auckland.
