Māori ad agency delivers authentic message
A Māori advertising agency is excited to be able to take the lead in public sector campaigns rather than be an add-on to mainstream agencies.
Wawata Creative is one of three Māori firms added to the government advertising and design panel, which means it can tender for work without going through extensive background checks each time.
Director Inia Maxwell says the Covid campaigns have shown the need for a Māori voice in public sector advertising.
“We have a lot of relationships with those big agencies and it is still important to hold their hands as well and awhi them but I think this is definitely a game changer, allowing Māori and Pasifika agencies to represent ourselves and our messages in the authentic way we know how, because we know how to touch our people,” he says.
The support of Te Puni Kōkiri was critical to getting Wawata Creative helping it through the application process.
