Whakatā mystery for commission
The Retirement Commission Te Ara Ahunga Ora wants to know what retirement looks like for Māori.
Commissioner Jane Wrightson says just talking about the need for financial literacy ignores the realities of human behaviour and the fact life sometimes gets in the way of even the best laid plans.
It has taken on researcher Kathie Irwin to identify what messages resonate with Māori and what they expect as their working lives draw to a close.
“And of course it’s different to Pākehā and other groups but no one has articulated this well yet and that is the point of the project,” she says.
The Retirement Commission will hold three hui in the new year, starting at Ōtautahi on February 17, and its also asking Māori to complete a short online survey.
