Tick from Ngātiwai for Uretiti pou kōrero

A Taitokerau leader is counting on checkpoints to keep whānau returning home for Christmas safe.
Ngāti Wai Trust Board chair Aperehama Edwards says concern over the Covid traffic light system prompted the iwi to make a submission to last week’s Waitangi Tribunal hearing on the government’s pandemic response.
It’s also backing the police-iwi checkpoint in its rohe at Uretiti near Waipu.
“Those coming north will be screened to ensure they comply with the requirements to be able to exit Tāmaki and venture north, so that gives us hope I suppose and optimism,” Mr Edwards says.
