Ceillhe Sperath from TIME Unlimited Tours took out the Marsh Tourism Industry Champion Award at this year’s New Zealand Tourism Awards.
Her firm offers luxury day tours of Tāmaki Makaurau and is wild west coast, or longer tours to anywhere in Aotearoa its well-heeled clients want to go.
The Ngāpuhi Irish wahine says the border closure means the business pivoted to developing tailored getaway experiences for the local market, and it found its connections to te ao Māori are as sought after by wealthy kiwis as by its overseas manuhiri.
“What they are wanting is what is our every day, what is something we can offer them they can’t get anywhere else. and it’s that whole picking pipi with your feet, going to sit with kaumatua if we’re passing a local marae we engage with – they really value the engagement and the meaningful connection,” Ms Sperath says.
