Primary healthcare group ProCare is the latest organisation to use an app to boost its cultural competency.
Its kaiwhakahaere Māori, Mihi Blair, says many health staff are scared of using kupu Māori because they might pronounce them wrong, so Ihi allows them to practice at home.
“It’s swipe to read, so you swipe on the word and it says the word for you, so you can practice it over and over again on how to pronounce it, and that’s one of the key things that our patients have said and our GPs are asking for,” she says.
