Oranga Tamariki left with temporary head
The Public Service Commission has opted to leave acting Oranga Tamariki chief executive Chappie Te Kani in the role for a further 12 months rather than appoint a permanent head to the troubled child welfare agency.
Commissioner Peter Hughes says Mr Te Kani has commenced the implementation of a transformation programme to meet the minister’s priorities and the recommendations of the Ministerial Advisory Board, and the focus should be on seeing the transformation process through.
Four senior Māori public servants including Mr Te Kani were interviewed for the role.
The post has been vacant since the resignation of Grainne Moss.
Mr Te Kani, an assistant commissioner with the Public Service Commission, was put in the role of acting CEO after the previous acting CEO, Sir Wira Gardiner, stepped aside for health reasons.
