Power back on for Nau Mai Rā

Kaupapa Māori power company Nau Mai Rā says it is ready to take on customers again after reaching hedge agreements with two generators including Meridian.
The start-up was forced to shed 300 customers in July after generators withdrew support.
Co-founder Ezra Hirawani says it can now start contacting the 10,000 people in its waiting list.
The company has a promise it won’t cut off people’s power, and it also has a pay forward option where customers can direct a koha from their power bill to their chosen kaupapa.
The campaign for power equality has earned Mr Hirawani a short listing in the Young New Zealander section of the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year Award.
Some others on the list of 10 are Ihumaatao occupation leader Pania Newton, Tauranga environmentalist Rangipo Takuira-Mita and singer Stan Walker.
