Hokianga holiday scrapped for ICU fear

Greens co-leader Marama Davidson says she’s forsaking her usual family summer holiday in Hokianga because of the risk of taking Covid-19 into the region.
The Greens say next month’s move to the traffic light system is about politics rather than health, and they would like to see vaccination rates in rural areas higher before Aucklanders burst their border.
Ms Davidson says she has been checking with Hauora Hokianga in Rāwene, and she is concerned at the lack of ICU capacity.
Covid-positive cases is something they can do without. Auckland clearly represents an increased threat because of the high cases. My whānau and I are choosing to not go back to the Hokianga for summer for the first time in 10 consecutive years,” she says.
