Talk to tamaiti about vax says Dr Lily
A south Auckland GP who has been immersed in the Covid vaccination roll out says it’s time to talk to your children about why they need to get the shot.
Vaccinations of children from 5 to 11 has already started in some countries.
In New Zealand, Medsafe has yet to approve the Pfizer vaccine for use with children, and the Health Ministry is talking to the company about whether existing supplies of adult vaccines can be used.
Dr Lily Fraser from Turuki Healthcare says as well as extensively researching the MRNA vaccine so she can answer patient questions, she has had the talk with her 9-year-old daughter.
“You’re going to know best what your tamaiti responds to. For my daughter, explaining that it will be coming for children soon and it’s my expectation she is going to get it and talking to her why, particularly because we have whānau in Australia and talking about the fact we can’t go overseas, we can’t get on an airplane unless she is vaccinated,” she says.
Dr Lily Fraser has also done YouTube videos for the Health Ministry, Dr Lily talks to tamariki.
