Cooperation brings results in search for unvaxxed

The Associate Health Minister for Māori Health, Peeni Henare, says Māori health providers may have enough data to identify unvaccinated Māori.
The North Island Whānau Ora Commissioning Agency and the Health Ministry are in a standoff over access to the National Health Index, which the agency believes it needs for its vaccination programme.
Mr Henare says he observed how much vaccination teams in Waitara last week were able to do with data at hand.
“I saw a grand example of good data through the DHB, good data through the GP clinics and PHOs and good data through iwi to support our efforts to vaccinate people. I stood there in the street in Waitara looking at an app at every home with an unvaccinated person, and that’s how we were door-knocking,” he says.
Mr Henare says the critical thing Māori providers can bring to vaccination of hard to reach groups is the trust they generate, especially with people who may have experienced bad service from the health system, police or justice.
