Kaiako learn needle skills
Staff and former students of Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Hoani Waititi have trained as vaccinators in time to help with tomorrow’s Ira.Dot vaccination event for rangaahi.
Principal Hare Rua says the group, including a year 13 student who intends to study medicine next year, were trained this week by Dr Rawiri Jansen.
He says they have been working with the registered nurse who runs the school’s new health hub to prepare.
There will be vaccinations at Hoani Waititi Marae from noon to 9pm Saturday and noon to 5pm Sunday.
There are also a large number of other venues open around the city, as health authorities try to get rangatahi in for their first dot, as well as give second doses to the thousands who turned out three weeks ago for Super Saturday.
Tāmaki Kapa Haka, Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei and Taumata Kōrero hope to get as many as 2,000 people a day to Eden Park to walk through the players’ tunnel and get vaccinated on the pitch.
Afterwards they can have a tour of parts of the stadium usually closed to the public like the All Blacks’ dressing rooms.
