Māori gods given superhero treatment

Aotearoa has its own superheroes.
Former television presenter Te Arahi Maipi has released his new animated children’s show Taiohi Gods on streaming platforms.
The show about teenage versions of Māori gods brought into the present day to learn their godly powers was inspired by his moko’s love for popular superheroes, and it’s aimed first at tamariki Māori.
“They can see their own kōrero nehe and our own superheroes in a context they are familiar with and something that really appeals to them and also for the other tamariki in Aotearoa, for them to learn a bit and understand who Tāne is, who Tangaroa is,” Maipi says.
Taiohi Gods is streaming on TVNZ OnDemand.
