Weekend push to get Māngere vaxed
Associate Health Minister Peeni Henare is hoping for a big upsurge in Māori getting vaccinated this weekend.
ProCare, Turuki Healthcare and Waikato Tainui have teamed up for a max-vax event at Māngere Town Centre tomorrow.
Overall 88 percent of eligible people in Counties Manukau have had a first dose, but for Māori the figure is still only 72 percent.
Mr Henare says that’s disappointing given the resources being thrown in, but no one’s giving up on getting as many Māori as possible jabbed.
“Yes there’s a surge and a need for a surge this weekend and over the next four to five weeks, but I have always been quite clear and so too have the Māori health providers this is going to have a long tail, and they will continue to offer the vaccine to our whānau even into the new year,” he says.
There are 125 new community cases of COVID-19 today, 118 in Auckland, four in Waikato, one in Northland, two in Canterbury.
