Preservation of Scenery hard to beat
A law used to take Māori land because of its supposed scenic value has inspired the latest album from Te Whānau-a-Apanui singer Rob Ruha.
He says a hapū wānanga at Raukokore discussed the way the 1903 Preservation of Scenery Act became another form of raupatu – and inspired the album’s title song.
Preservation of Scenery includes contributions from Gisborne-based Māori choir Ka Hao, up and coming singer Jhaymean Terekia and Canadian First Nations duo Halluci Nation, formerly known as A Tribe Called Red.
