Māori Land Court Judge Layne Harvey has followed the path of his former law firm colleague Sir Joe Williams into the High Court.
Judge Harvey, from Ngāti Awa, will sit in Auckland.
He joined Walters Williams in 1997, primarily focusing on Māori and treaty issues, and became partner in 2000, the same year he graduated with a Master of Commercial Law from the University of Auckland.
He was appointed to the Māori Land Court in 2002 and also sits on the Waitangi Tribunal and, from 2018, as an alternate Judge of the Environment Court.
