Matatini move cause for concern

Auckland Mayor Phil Goff says all of Tāmaki Makaurau would be disappointed if Te Matatini moves elsewhere.
There’s talk in kapa haka circles that as it is increasingly unlikely Auckland will be out of level 3 by the end of October when the situation will be reviewed, organisers will give up trying to hold the event at Eden Park next February or April and pass the baton to the next host, Aotea, in 2023.
“I know the organisers don’t want that to happen and they are resisting suggestions it should be moved but we have to see how things unwind. We don’t want to lose Te Matatini again. We’d love to have it. It will be a huge festival having it in Auckland,” Mr Goff says.
