Māori Komiti picked for training sector
Te Pūkenga, the new body for the polytech and vocational training sector, has appointed its inaugural Māori advisory committee in partnership with the National Iwi Chairs Forum’s Mātauranga Iwi Leaders Group.
Te Pūkenga chair Murray Strong says the Komiti Māori will provide his council with advice, assurance, critical thought and leadership.
He says the organisation has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to change vocational and applied learning and put ākonga at the centre which means it needs to be more responsive to ākonga Māori.
The initial six members are former Te Wānanga o Aotearoa chief executive Bentham Ohia, Dr Teorongonui Josie Keelan, Glenda Taituha, Te Pūoho Katene, Jasmine Te Hira, and Dr Ramari Raureti, who also sits on Te Pūkenga staff committee.
One member will be nominated by the komiti to sit on Te Pūkenga’s council.
