Vaccine pass could boost shot numbers
The chief executive of Manurewa Marae is welcoming news a vaccination pass system is on its way.
The marae has vaccinated thousands of people through the course of the year, but Takutai Moana Natasha Kemp says more innovative ways are still needed to reach many Māori.
She says some people haven’t been vaccinated because of transport and access problems, because they haven’t got the information in a way they understand, or whakamā.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s announcement of a certificate will be needed from next month to access bars, restaurants and events may be the spur they need.
“It’s timely for the Government to actually say ‘you will need your vaccination passport to go to a restaurant, to visit certain places,’ and I think we need that kind of motivation to make feel ‘if I don’t get my vaccination I can’t go anywhere,'” Ms Kemp says.
Manurewa Marae’s Shot Cuzz bus is at the Clendon Shopping Centre today, and there will be kai vouchers on offer as an incentive for people to get vaccinated.
