First titles issued for Whakaue subdivision
Rotorua Lakes Council has issued titles for the first 52 lots in the Wharenui Rise subdivision.
Ngāti Whakaue Tribal Lands general manager Ray Morrison says civil works started last month on the second 84-lot stage, with titles expected to be issued at the end of 2022.
Eventually up to 1000 lots will be developed.
He says while the development will provide a consistent flow of homes to the Rotorua housing market for years to come, it is also boosting the economy now through the emergence of new housing companies hiring staff, as well as work for engineers, civil works, builders, plumbers, painters, real estate agents and even the shops where workers buy their smoko.
Each stage of the development will include some affordable houses, with shareholders or people who whakapapa to Ngāti Whakaue being given first preference to register their interest.
