Te Mana o Ngāti Rangitihi Trust has been appointed responsible trustee of a key reserve alongside the Tarawera River.

Chair Leith Comer says the 41 hectare Pokohu A3 Māori Reservation is the gateway to Rangitihi’s tribal lands inland and the gateway to the Tarawera Falls.

It has been managed by Te Arawa Lakes Trust, and Mr Comer thanked the trust for supporting the change in the Māori Land Court.

The iwi intends to work with the Department of Conservation to improve facilities and access through to the Falls, as well as investigate ways to visually and symbolically express Ngāti Rangitihi mana on Pokohu A3.
