ERO finds anxiety high about lockdown learning
About one in five Māori and Pasifika students say they don’t have access at home to digital devices, heightening their concerns about being able to learn during lockdowns.
New reports by the Education Review Office say some students are likely to need additional support when they return to the classroom.
Ruth Shinoda from ERO’s Education Evaluation Centre says students in low decile schools were less likely to have a device at home, whereas that was a problem for less than one in 20 high decile students.
Based on last year’s experience, student anxiety about COVID-19 is likely to increase significantly after they come out of their bubbles and return to school.
The reports outline practical actions schools can take for re-engaging students back in the classroom and addressing any learning loss that may have occurred as a result of lockdown.
