5 million vaxed but too few Māori
New Zealand has passed the milestone of 5 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins says as of midnight Saturday there has been 3,231,444 first doses administered and 1,789,456 second doses.
After peaking at more than 90,000 doses a day in late August, there are now about 50,000 doses going into arms every day.
There are more than 1.3 million vaccine doses in stock currently and shipments arriving regularly.
For Māori, there have been just over 300,000 first doses administered and 150,000 who have had their second shot, meaning 265 in every 1000 are fully vaccinated, compared with an overall full vaccination rate of 410 in every 1000 people.
Yesterday there were 18 new community cases in Auckland, following on from 16 on Saturday.
