No room for nurses on MHA board
The New Zealand Nurses Organisation is disappointed at the lack of nurses or a clear union presence on the new Māori Health Authority and Health New Zealand boards.
Kaiwhakahaere Kerri Nuku says despite the efforts of Māori nurses to push for transformation, they are not represented, nor are the WAI 2575 claimants who challenged policy and practice.
She says nurses and unionists are system thinkers and understand the needs of their communities and the realities of workers on the ground.
They offer an alternative to 30 years of health policy dictated by corporate interests and dominated by medical professionals.
