Waiariki MP Rawiri Waititi says the decision not to put another managed isolation and quarantine facility in Rotorua is down to the united voices of Te Arawa iwi and hapū.
The 32nd MIQ will instead be at The Quality Hotel Elms in Christchurch.
Mr Waititi says the Māori Party’s role was to stand behind the iwi.
“We were there to ensure they had a political voice so we did that by asking critical questions in select committees, in the House, but also we had a petition going,” he says.
