Covid in Kaiaua sparks test surge

Covid testing centres have been in full swing in the Firth of Thames today as authorities try to pick up any cases which may have spread beyond the Kaiaua family where three people tested positive yesterday.
Two are children who last week were at Mangatangi School, which has become the first Waikato site added as a location of interest.
The school was closed today.
There were 22 new cases today, including the three Waikato cases announced last night.
Waikato DHB is asking the communities in and around Kaiaua, Whakatīwai, Mangatangi, and Maramarua to take extra precautions today.
Anyone who attended the school on Wednesday or Thursday is considered a close contact and has been asked to self-isolate and seek a Covid-19 test.
In its first two hours of operating a drive-through testing centre at Wharekawa Marae this morning, Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki processed 150 swabs.
It will be back there tomorrow morning.
