ESR taps Mauri Model creator for strategy advice

The Institute of Environmental Science and Research has appointed innovator and academic Dr Kepa Morgan to its strategic science advisory panel,

Dr Morgan says he was particularly interested in ESR’s specialisation in science for communities.

Much of his professional work involves using the Mauri Model decision-making framework he developed for his engineering doctorate to help councils and others to incorporate cultural considerations into decisions about water use.

That research is now relevant in many contexts associated with te mana o te wai and the Three Waters reforms.

Since 2019 Dr Morgan has led the Mōhiotanga Te Arawa research team for Pohewa Pae Tawhiti – Our Land and Water National Science Challenge.
