Dome Valley dump hits snag

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua is cautiously optimistic about the decision by Auckland Council-appointed commissioners to decline a plan change for a proposed landfill in Dome Valley near Warkworth.
Waste Management has resource consents for the dump, which are currently being appealed in the Environment Court.
Chief executive Alan Riwaka expects the company will appeal the latest decision and then fight to retain its consents.
He says while the decision was unanimous, only one commissioner referred to the significant and irreversible impacts on cultural and ecological values if the dump goes ahead.
