Downward path in Covid cases continues
There are 49 new community cases of COVID-19 today; all in Auckland.
This brings the total number of cases in the community outbreak to 612.
One previously reported case has been reclassified as a border case.
The total number of community cases in Auckland is now 597 and in Wellington it is 15.
Director General of Health Ashley Bloomfield says six cases are under the age of one.
There are 33 cases are in hospital – 25 are in a stable condition on a ward and eight cases are in a stable condition in ICU.
All those in hospital are over the age of 18.
The country outside Auckland and Northland move down to level 3 at midnight.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern stressed that Level 3 does not mean freedom – it means caution, it means staying in your bubble and it means distance, it means contactless transactions.
