Poukairangi takes on university challenge
The first associate dean Māori of the faculty of health at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University of Wellington, says it’s a chance to make a difference for Māori students and staff.
Dr Clive Aspin says there are big expectations for the role of poukairangi.
He wants Te Herenga Waka to be the first choice for Māori students.
"I'd like them to look in our direction and think 'yeah, that's the place I want to go because I know I will be supported as a Māori student within an environment where Māori students are valued, where Māori staff are valued, and where we can provide an opportunity to discover a world in a way which is conducive to improving our lot here in Aotearoa," Dr Aspin says.
