Food supplies run low for far north whanau
A far north community organiser is concerned about the effect of lockdown on food supplies for low-income whānau.
Rueben Taipari says the speed of the lockdown caught people out, and iwi and whānau ora providers have been slow to get their systems up.
"Our whānau have been killing the beef and trying to share it around, but because it's been a week now being locked at home, those who are on a benefit, their benefits have just come through, so they are going into one shopping centre to get all their supplies to replace all last week and prepare them for the week to come to so it's quite a load to be looking for supplies," he says.
.Rueben Taipari says coming in the middle of winter, wild harvest supplies are low.
