Goff picking restrictions to stay
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff is warning people to get ready for a longer lockdown.
The Prime Minister will give an update on the lockdown in her 4pm post-cabinet news conference today.
Mr Goff says he’s pleased to see there has so far not been cases found outside Auckland and Wellington – but with almost 300 locations of interest around the city, there is still a lot of contact tracing and testing to be done.
"I think it will take quite a lot longer. This variant is hugely contagious, as we have seen. Just three cases of people apparently got it at the Crowne Plaza is the latest theory, and it has spread like wildfire. Let's hope we are on top of that and this good news is there are a whole lot of tests being done, 32,000 on Saturday, and a whole lot of vaccinations likewise, 52,000 on Saturday," he says.
Phil Goff says the fact use of the Covid app had dropped to 10 percent is making contact tracing harder, and he’s pleased signing in will be made mandatory in future.
