AFFCO line get the jab
MidCentral District Health Board has started workplace COVID-19 vaccination clinics with more than 100 employees at AFFCO receiving their first dose.
The multi-shift beef processing plant near Feilding has a largely Māori and Pasifika staff.
DHB spokersperson Adele Small says the programme is targeting workplaces with priority populations, with a wider roll out of workplace vaccinations likely to take place from mid-September.
Plant manager Ann Nuku says Māori and Pasifika are more likely to get really sick from COVID-19, and management wanted to give staff the opportunity to not just protect themselves from the virus, but also their whānau and wider community.
Overseas, meat processing plants have been the sites of significant COVID-19 infection.
