Emergency housing boom worries Waititi

Waiariki MP Rawiri Waititi is concerned at the level of oversight over emergency housing.
He acknowledges the work the Government is doing to address homelessness, but questions the increasing use of hotels and motels in Rotorua, Whakatane and Tauranga for emergency housing.
“What does it look like for many of our whānau, so they’re going into rat-infested, bedbug, cockroach-infested – a lot of the hoteliers have moved out and left it to MSD and government to look after and many of them are stressed, many of them have babies, so we want to ask the minister who is measuring these and who is keeping them accountable to ensure our people are going into safe spaces,” Mr Waititi says.
