Davis backs electoral option change
The Justice Ministry is reviewing the Māori Electoral Option, which happens after each five-yearly census and gives Māori voters four months to shift rolls.
Mr Davis says a more regular option makes sense.
“I don’t think we should be able to chop and change if there is a by-election, jumping from say the Māori roll to the general roll and then back to the Māori roll, that is having two bites of the cherry, but certainly between every election I think Māori should be able to choose whether we want to go on either the general or the Māori roll,” he says.
