In-house design blamed for Manukau vax event misfire

An underwhelming response to this weekend's mass vaccination event in South Auckland is being blamed on Government reluctance to give Māori control.
So far only about 3000 of those invited have booked times, far short of the 15,000 officials hoped for.
Dr Collin Tukuitonga, the associate dean Pacific of Auckland University's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, says Māori and Pacific leaders should have been at the helm.
"I would have thought you would want to have Māori communities, Māori providers, Māori doctors, Māori media owning, leading, designing this intervention," he says.
Dr Tukuitonga says health officials don't seem to learn from their failures.
