Ngai Tahu pinpoints flood relief need

Ngāi Tahu is contacting its whānau on the West Coast to see if they need help after the weekend’s devastating floods.
Chief executive Arihia Bennett says the iwi has strong relationships with emergency response teams, and it is now swinging in behind the recovery.
"We know from our own geographical mapping systems that we can see where our whānau live and what we are able to do from there is go in and have contact with those whānau to look at their specific needs, firstly to see if they need extra accommodation, extra support," she says.
The Government is contributing $600,000 to help residents affected by the weekend’s violent weather with recovery efforts, including $300,000 to a Buller Mayoral Relief Fund and another $100,000 towards a similar fund for Marlborough.
