New reality poetry in E Tu Whanau comp
Anti-violence organisation E Tū Whānau is running its first spoken word competition with prizes of between $250 and $2500 on offer.
The theme is Ngā Moemoeā: Hopes and dreams for my world, my future, my whānau.
Former National Poetry Slam winner Te Kahu Rolleston from Ngāi Te Rangi says it’s a chance for whānau to experience the power words have to carve out realities.
There are sections for rangatahi, for 18 years and under, and an open category for 19 and over.
Entrants need to record and original spoken word performance and post it online.
Rolleston will share tips on writing and performing on the E Tū Whānau Facebook page throughout the competition, which runs to August 13.
