Information gap slowing vaccine take up
A nurse at Waipareira’s Vax to the Max centre says younger Māori may need more information to feel comfortable about getting the Covid-19 vaccination.
The centre in Henderson is now administering about 400 shots a day, and Kim Wi says that is set to increase.
She says if any Māori wants to get the vaccination, the criteria is now flexible enough to fit them in – but many are not yet at that stage.
"Under-50s are really quite challenged, and even to 55, about being informed. There are lots of people that… what's the vaccine made of, conspiracy. I know the younger ones up to 55, they need a little more information to make the decision," she says.
