Māori Party co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says National’s criticism of a koha to the Mongrel Mob is race-baiting.

National leader Judith Collins is demanding chief Human Rights Commissioner Paul Hunt be sacked for giving the $200 donation to a human rights hui in May involving the Waikato chapter of the gang.

Ms Ngarewa Packer says Ms Collins seems to suddenly be an expert on tikanga Māori.

"Seriously one minute this woman is trying to tell us how wahine should be and shouldn't be on the paepae and the next thing she and they are having an opinion on koha and on our tikanga applied to koha so this is another example of weak race-baiting, desperate to make headlines, and it's annoying," she says.

Debbie Ngarewa-Packer says National was silent about former leader Don Brash’s visit to the same gang and didn’t ask him if a koha was given.
