Potiki steps in to steer inquiry workload
The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care has appointed Helen Potiki as its acting executive director.
She replaces Mervin Singham who has been picked to head the new Ministry for Ethnic Communities.
Ms Potiki, from Tapuika, Ngāti Porou and Ngāi Tahu, was a policy manager at the Office of Ethnic Communities, and has previously been acting chief executive of the Ministry for Women as well as working in the area of family violence and violence against women.
Royal Commission chair, Judge Coral Shaw, says this year the inquiry will deliver a report on the adequacy of past and present State and faith-based systems to provide redress to abuse survivors.
