No place in prisons for placebo drug courses

Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis is rejecting criticism over a reduction in drug and alcohol programmes in prisons.
National Party police spokesperson Simeon Brown claims there has been a 75 percent drop in people receiving drug and alcohol rehabilitation services in prisons.
Mr Davis says what was dropped in 2018 was a number of courses lasting four to eight hours.
"I'm not going to tell Corrections to keep going with courses that don't work. What the previous National Government did was put people through these courses and say they had boosted their numbers. The reality is it had absolutely no effect so why should we do something that doesn't work," he says.
Minister Davis says he’s instead putting money in three and six month courses.
