Political ambition leads to colonial goose
Māori Development Minister Willie Jackson says Paul Goldsmith is trying to become relevant – and it’s not working.
National’s education spokesperson has come under fire for his weekend comment that colonisation was on balance good for Māori.
Mr Jackson says every indigenous group around the world that experienced colonial invasion is still grappling with disparities in health, education and other social and economic indicators.
He says Mr Goldsmith is trying to mount a comeback after being dumped as his party’s finance spokesperson after his election campaign gaffes.
"The problem is he has stuffed up again badly and he better be careful because they might be looking for an exit for him if he carries on with this sort of rubbish, because it's just madness from him in terms of this kaupapa," Mr Jackson says.
He's invited Paul Goldsmith to Nga Whare Waatea Marae to learn more about Māori responses to colonisation.
