Ki o rahi gets boost from play fund
Traditional Māori games have got a boost from Sport Hawkes Bay’s latest grants from the Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa fund.
The fund is for projects aimed at getting more young people active in play, active recreation and sport.
St Joseph’s Waipukurau, Waipukurau School, and Sherenden and Districts School Rural Cluster won grants for ki o rahi and traditional games.
Ātea a Rangi Educational Trust in Napier got $6000 to promote waka hourua in schools.
Community partnership advisor, Kate Benny says play applications were the main beneficiary in the May round, in recognition of the role of play in children's physical and cognitive development.
