Big change big pūtea needed in budget
Former Alliance and Mana Motuhake deputy leader Sandra Lee-Vercoe wants to see change coming out of today's Budget.
She says Labour enjoys a mandate like no other party under MMP, so the question is how much courage it has in the face of exceptional circumstances.
She says there are rumblings at the flax roots the Government is too much review, not enough do, and people want to see it tackling long-standing deficits in health, housing, and other social services.
"Change is what is needed in this Budget – ,big change, bold change – and money. You can set up a Māori Health Authority and ka pai to that, but here is the bottom line. If there is no money, it doesn't mean anything," Ms Lee-Vercoe says.
