Controversial initiatives about equity under treaty
Te Tai Tonga MP Rino Titikatene says National’s campaign of attacking the Government’s Māori and treaty strategies smacks of desperation.
This month National leader Judith Collins has thrown shade on Māori wards, the Māori Health Authority, the He Puapua report and most recently she has claimed the consequences of the Three Waters initiative will be the transfer of assets to iwi.
Mr Tirikatene says the Government is standing its ground.
"We are about promoting the treaty partnership and that's what we are doing as a Government through a range of historic initiatives we are doing whether it's a Māori Health Authority or the creation of Māori wards, it's all about ensuring kāwanatanga can work with rangatiratanga so that we can achieve equity for our people, as promised by the treaty," he says.
