Vegas lead shrugs off backlash
Vegas lead Cian Elyse White says she was ready for negative reactions to the action-thriller.
The series set in Rotorua has copped flak from Māori viewers for its portrayal of Māori culture, gangs, crime, and drugs.
White, who plays bar owner Toni Poulan, says the show is also attracting praise.
She says true art should disturb the comfortable, and comfort the disturbed.
"As artists we're not here to be liked. We're here to make art that provokes, evokes and really brings to the forefront these crucial, critical, current issues, and whether you like it or hate it, Vegas has done that," White says.
