Ngā Iwi o Taranaki have placed a rahui to acknowledge the deaths of two Christchurch climbers near the summit on Tuesday night.
It will apply to all access routes to the summit and be reviewed after a week.
The iwi says the rāhui provides time for tapu to dissipate and allows time for healing and recovery of the natural elements as well as the people – in particular, the grieving whānau.
Another attempt will be made today to retrieve the bodies.
