Central banks tackle indigenous economics
The Reserve Bank Te Pūtea Matua, the Bank of Canada and the Reserve Bank of Australia along with indigenous partners have formed a voluntary network to tackle indigenous economic and financial issues.
Reserve Bank Governor Adrian Orr says as inaugural chair to the Central Bank Network for Indigenous Inclusion, Te Pūtea Matua will be a strong advocate in Aotearoa and aim to role-model good leadership internationally.
The network will aim to:
- conduct research for and with Indigenous Peoples on economic issues;
- Build cultural awareness, recruitment practices and other aspects of corporate culture to foster Indigenous inclusion within member organizations.
- Strengthen engagement practices with Indigenous groups and communities; and
- Support economic and financial education for and about Indigenous Peoples.
The Bank of Canada will hold which should be the first of regular symposiums on Indigenous Economics in late 2021.
