Bank backing Maori lawyers
Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa and Kiwibank have agreed to share skills, expertise and ideas.
Kiwibank head of Māori advisory, Teaho Pihama says both organisations are committed to encouraging whānau, hapū and iwi initiatives.
He says the Māori Law Society is a thought leader in the relationship between Te Ao Māori, the law, and corporate Aotearoa, and the relationship will help Kiwibank keep up to date on what’s important in the legal system and to Māori.
Jamie-Lee Tuuta, the society’s tumuaki wahine, says the bank is taking steps to demonstrate a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ao Māori.
The agreement includes sponsorship of Te Hunga Rōia Māori annual conference and other objectives, including responding to the legal needs of Te Ao Māori
